Tasting Notes

Always a crowd-pleaser in our Pinot roster, Stiling Vineyard gave us some lovely raw materials to work with once again. Coming off of the dense and muscular 2015 vintage, the 2016 shows a more precise and energetic side of this massively popular Russian River favorite. While the wine is definitely the fullest-bodied Pinot we made this year, it maintains an alluring sense of balance and more than a few of us here at EK think it’s one of our best yet.

Everything we love about this prime Russian River location and the famed Swan clone is on display: Loads of creamy, smoky, ripe Bing and black cherries dosed with warm baking spices (clove and nutmeg predominantly) and the typically long, satisfying Stiling finish.

We employed a small percentage of whole-cluster fermentation to lend some extra structure and bramble to the mix, and raised each cuvee component in a selection of our favorite older and newer French oak barrels. With such an abundance of flavor, structure and detail, we think the 2016 has something for everyone.

Now owned and farmed by the Dehlinger family, we’re looking forward to even greater glories from Stiling Vineyard in the future and will continue to source fruit from this magical spot so close to the heart of our EK story.
