TASTING NOTES

Once again, our Sascha Marie Pinot is a showcase for the deeper, darker fruit flavors we get from select Petaluma Gap and Russian River Valley vineyards and provides a Yin to the more delicate Small Town Pinot’s Yang.

Those who appreciate a relatively muscular, textural Pinot will love the weight and depth of this vintage. Boldly fruited with dark berries, black plum and cherry all winding around a core of juicy framboise and gentle sweet spice. Fifteen months in 62% new French oak provides subtle background notes of grilled bread, vanilla and smooth caramel. A rich wine, no doubt, but with plenty of integrated tannin and acid structure to make it cellar worthy as well.

One of the things we love most about these vineyards is that even in warmer vintages, cool nighttime drafts from the Pacific flow in to create “Mother Nature’s air conditioner” and help the grapes retain their natural acidity. This allows us to offer a bigger Pinot like Sascha Marie that still offers a sense of balance and poise.

We make Sascha Marie with the hope that it will be ready to drink relatively early, but this vintage will certainly benefit from a degree of patience in the cellar as it unfolds to reveal its many and nuanced true colors.
